Overview
Made a donation outside of Bright Funds? If your company offers matching, you may be able to submit your donation for matching.
You will need an official donation receipt from the nonprofit that indicates that no goods or services were exchanged for your donation. The receipt must also include the below details:
- Your name
- Nonprofit name
- Donation date
- Donation amount
*Note: Check images, pledge forms, and bank statements are not eligible to serve as official donation receipts.
How to submit a match
There are two ways to request a match:
- Click on "Request a Match" on your Dashboard OR;
2. Click on the "Request a Match" link on the nonprofit's page in Bright Funds
Once you click on Request a Match:
- Search your nonprofit by name or charity ID number (in the U.S., that would be their EIN). If you donated to a public school, toggle to the "Schools" option when searching
- Fill out the details. Make sure the date you select matches the date of your donation on the receipt, as well as the amount.
- Upload your donation receipt. You will need to confirm that all the information is on the receipt in order to upload the file.
- Click to submit!
Your matching budget will be updated to reflect the new amount you have left for matching.
*Please note, matching amounts are based on your available budget. For example, if you have $100 in your matching budget left, and you submit a match for a $200 donation, only $100 will be matched, as that is how much you have left in your budget.
How do I match to an external fundraiser?
If you made a donation to a fundraising page, you can request a match!
You'll want to submit your match request on the receiving nonprofit's page in Bright Funds, just as you normally would. Using the "include a designation" checkbox on the matching form, you can enter the fundraising details [ex: participant's name, race URL (as space permits), etc.]
The information will then be shared with the nonprofit once the funds are sent. It would be up to the nonprofit to allocate the funds on their end.
What's next?
Once you submit your match, it will be added to the review list for your company. Your company will then review your match request for approval on their end, which may take a few weeks. Once your company reviews the match, you will receive an email letting you know of the update.
