What is a matching donation?
Bright Funds makes it easy to double your impact with company matching gifts! A matching donation means that your company will match the same amount or less for a donation you made to an eligible nonprofit.
*Note: Your company may have a minimum amount eligible for matching. The minimum is noted on the Bright Funds checkout page for your convenience. Make sure you know your company's minimum to ensure your donations are matched. Feel free to reach out to our support@brightfunds.org if you are not sure!
Matching Meter
If your company offers matching as part of their program on Bright Funds, then the matching meter on your personal Dashboard will show your annual matching limit. Until you hit that amount for the year, any donations you make on Bright Funds will automatically generate a matching gift.
You will be able to see a new matching gift created on your Dashboard with each donation you make. You can visit your My Donations page to check on the status of your matching gift at any time.
*Please note, matching amounts are based on your available budget. For example, if you have $100 in your matching budget left, and you submit a match for a $200 donation, only $100 will be matched, as that is how much you have left in your budget.
Can I request a match for a donation I made before I joined my company?
Generally, only donations you have made at the time you are employed with your company are eligible for matching. However, this is at the discretion of your company and their guidelines.
My nonprofit is not listed; can I still request a match?
Nonprofits must be listed in Bright Funds as eligible in order to receive donations, including matching. If you would like us to help you check eligibility for your nonprofit, please reach out to support@brightfunds.org, sharing the name of your nonprofit.
Can I claim my matching donation for my taxes?
Any funds paid for by your company are generally not tax-deductible by you, the individual donor. This includes matching donations, volunteer match, and credit donations. In any case, please consult with your tax advisor.
